“Turtle Soup is goood… Turtle Soup is delicious” – John Popper of Blues Traveler
“… exhiliarating jams and blazing dance grooves” – Relix Magazine
Turtle Soup is an original, high-energy mix of rock, funk and trance… “The Soup” have already created quite a resume, sharing bills with Umphrey’s McGee, Lettuce, Blues Traveler, Furthur, moe., Gov’t Mule, The Mickey Hart Band, The Bernie Worrell Orchestra, Break Science, Steve Kimock, Paul Rodgers, Marshall Tucker Band, Dark Star Orchestra, Foghat, Little Feat and Max Creek. The 5 piece band from Asbury Park, NJ also had tracks appear on compilations put out by Warner Bros., Relix Magazine, the NJ Jazz & Blues Foundation and Brookdale Public Radio.
Based in New Jersey, their unique sound and explosive musical abilities have resonated with audiences and dance floors in the jam/festival scene. Turtle Soup built their following the old school way, with great live performances and positive vibes. As a proof of their hard work and consistently great reviews, Turtle Soup hosted the first ever Souper Groove Music Festival in Freehold, New Jersey in September 2012. Featuring Turtle Soup as the headliner and 30 other bands in support, they drew nearly 1,000 raving attendees, some as far as Washington State and Florida, to the multi-day event. Their festival eventually sold out several times and brought countless positive experiences for the attendees and New Jersey jam scene.
Critics also approve with glowing reviews and awards. Turtle Soup was named New Groove of the Month at jambands.com, and they’ve won Top Jam Band and Top Groove Band at the Asbury Music Awards on 5 different occasions.
Turtle Soup released their self-titled CD at the end of 2008. It was nominated for Homegrown Music Network’s “Studio Album of the Year”. Songs from it were place with Warner, Microsoft, and various movie and internet features.
Seconds is the highly anticipated follow-up to Turtle Soup’s self-titled, 2008 release. Their sophomore album beautifully utilizes the lushness of the studio to capture the magic of Turtle Soup’s tonal array.
In 2017, Turtle Soup featured the resurgence of Asbury Park after Superstorm Sandy decimated the region with the video and single “We’ve Got Each Other”. Showing scenes of the modern Asbury Park via drone as well as scenes from Turtle Soup’s sold-out shows at the legendary Stone Pony and fabled Souper Groove Music Festival, the video is expertly synched with the jamming audio track. The song itself is produced with 100% solar power at Brooksound Productions. Bouyed by a souper tight groove, funk-pop bass line, hugely uplifting chorus, and melodic guitar solo.

THE SOUPER GROOVE ALL-STARS
Voted one of the “Top Tribute Acts” in Asbury Park, Souper Groove All-Stars is a show of the top jam, funk, rock, EDM and bluegrass musicians that have been affiliated with “NJ’s Party of the Year”, Souper Groove Music Festival.
Led by music producer Jeff “Mudd” Mahajan, the mission of the Souper Groove All-Stars is to unite the jam community together in a way that inspires folklore about the scene and fosters brotherhood amongst the musicians in the community.
“The scene here is literally exploding with talent,” says Mahajan. “I want to create larger-than-life jams that will inspire people to tell stories of the incredible collaborations they’ve witnessed. It’s not every day that you see Bernard Purdie on drums with TM Stevens on bass and Todd Stoops on keys, crushing Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” with a full horn section. That’s what happened at one of the All-Star gigs.”
With this kind of party, anything can, and will happen. “We’ve had stormtroopers dressed like John Travolta and girls shaking their money maker on stage. We’ve had Rock and Roll Hall of Famers play with us, and we’ve also been tipped a $100 bill from some guy after he heard one song.”
Souper Groove All-Stars lineups have included members and former members of: Steely Dan, James Brown, The Pretenders, Blondie, Steve Vai, Joe Cocker, Screaming Headless Torsos, RAQ, Kung Fu, Splintered Sunlight, Justin Guarini Band, Juggling Suns, Solar Circus, Turtle Soup, Dead On Live, Mack & Friends, Battery Electric, The Brummy Brothers, Natural Breakdown, Mike Montrey Band, Karmic Juggernaut, Strange Heat, Cocktail Party Phenomenon, Remember Jones, Nik Greeley & The Operators, Swift Technique, UFOTOFU, Glycerine Queens, DAB5, Tony Tedesco & Full Fathom 5, The Union, The Sakima Connection, Downstream, Waiting on Mongo, Des and the Swagmatics, Tympanic Plexus, and many more.
Hosted at the brand new House of Independents on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park, the season-long “First Friday Souper Jam” concert series will offer the hottest local and not-so local legendary musicians the scene has to offer as well as unique musical tributes and dream set lists that will get any serious live music fans body and feet moving!
